Local Teleflora Florists Bring Smiles To Oswego Health Patients, Residents

OSWEGO, NY – Several local Teleflora florists brought out the smiles during their recent floral deliveries to the patients of Oswego Hospital and The Manor at Seneca Hill.

Each Oswego Hospital patient and resident of The Manor was given a smile arrangement courtesy of Teleflora’s Make Someone Smile Week. Spearheading the initiative was Debbie McKinstry, owner of Maida’s Floral Shop in Oswego.

“This is a very fulfilling program,” McKinstry said. “There is always a moment during these deliveries that we give someone flowers who has never received an arrangement, or someone who has had a rough day and the flowers make that day better.”

McKinstry is a board member of the Upstate Unit of Teleflora. She has been a part of the program for the past eight years and decided to bring it to her own back yard this year.

Needless to say, those arrangements were appreciated.

“It is wonderful that the Teleflora florists recognize our patients,” said Oswego Health Vice President and Oswego Hospital Chief Operating Officer Nancy Deavers. “I saw a lot of smiles as we delivered the arrangements. We give our patients the best in care and treatment, and these flowers just add to their recovery.”

Just as appreciative were the residents of The Manor and those who take advantage of the facility’s adult day health program.

“Our residents and adult day health care participants were so excited to receive the beautiful flowers last week and especially that each person got their own flower arrangement really surprised them,” said Oswego Health Vice President and The Manor’s Chief Operating Officer Maureen Annal.  “Our adult day health care participants actually quickly signed a thank you note and presented it to the florists before they left, it was a wonderful event.”

More than 140 arrangements were delivered to The Manor.

The participating Teleflora florists included Maida’s, Designs of Elegance in Pulaski, Travis Florist of Hannibal; Design Accents in Fulton; and Dowd’s House of Flowers, also in Fulton.

The Oswego Health care system includes the Oswego Hospital, The Manor at Seneca Hill, a skilled nursing facility; Springside at Seneca Hill, a retirement living community; as well as numerous services across Oswego County.
