Marching Bucs Continue to Compete – Pageant Of Champions Nears

OSWEGO, NY – The annual Oswego “Pageant of Champions” is just over a week away and the Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers return to the field for competition this Saturday evening at Cicero-North Syracuse.

Last week, the Bucs finished fifth in the National Division with a scored of 72.35 at East Syracuse-Minoa.

The Marching Bucs prepared for last weekend’s NYSFBC season with a performance at the OHS football game. Among the students performing were Deanna Santiago (guard), Brandon Walker (drumline), Danielle Gilbert (guard) and Brittany Reed (flute).

However, band director Steve Defren said, “We had a great first performance at East Syracuse-Minoa. We have a great group of kids this year with lots of new faces.”

Continuing he said,” Our first performance was just like we hoped it could be and this week we are making some improvements to the show that are going to make us even better. This band works hard and is getting better every rehearsal. I am very excited to see the band perform again this Saturday.”

Oswego will be joined by National Division members West Genesee, Liverpool, Central Square and Victor in competition while the host Cicero-North Syracuse NorthStars will perform in exhibition. Also performing will be Auburn, Phoenix, Mohonasen, East Irondequoit, and East Syracuse-Minoa.

The show will start at 6 p.m. with the National Division bands beginning at 7:15 with Victor and following in order are Oswego, West Genesee, Liverpool and Central Square.

Last week at ESM the West Genesee Wildcats finished in first with an 81.15 followed by CNS with a 78.05, Liverpool with a 77.45, Central Square at 75.65 and Oswego with a 72.35.

On Sept. 25, the thirty-second annual “Pageant of Champions” will begin on Joe Wilber Field at 5:30 p.m. with Auburn starting off the night.

Following the Maroons will be Phoenix, East Irondequoit, Norwich, Jordan-Elbridge, East Syracuse-Minoa, West Genesee, Webster, Cicero-North Syracuse, Liverpool, Victor, and Central Square.
