Marching Bucs Host 30th Pageant Of Champions Saturday Night

OSWEGO, NY – The 30th Annual Pageant of Champions will highlight the weekend as the Oswego High School Marching Bucs host some of the most talented bands in Central New York.

Friday evening alumni will gather to reflect upon their positive experiences in the Oswego High School band, but the highlight will be Saturday 6:30 p.m. when the bands take to the field for competition at Joe Wilber Field adjacent to the Frederick Leighton Elementary School on Buccaneer Boulevard.

Phoenix will be the lone Small School 2 representative and will perform at 6:30 p.m. Following the Firebirds will be two Small School 1 bands with Norwich scheduled for 6:45 p.m. and East Syracuse-Minoa at 7 p.m.

The National Division will have four bands in competition with Liverpool scheduled to take the field for competition at 7:15 followed by West Genesee at 7:30 p.m., Victor at 7:45 p.m. and Cicero-North Syracuse at 8 p.m.

The host Oswego High School Marching Bucs will perform in exhibition as this will be the first time many local fans have viewed the new “Asian Dances” program.

Following the competition Ed Lisk, along with drum major Emily Fiorini and assistant drum major Amber Scruton will be presenting the trophies to this year’s participants.

Oswego Marching Band Director Steve Defren said, “This is the highlight of the year for our seniors. This is the final opportunity that they have to participate in one of the longest running band shows in Central New York. It is usually a night filled with emotion.”

Continuing he said, “There will be even more emotion this year as we expect a tremendous number of our alumni to return for the festivities. Thirty years is a long time and memories and stories will be discussed and shared throughout the weekend.”

This past weekend the Marching Bucs participated in the Cicero-North Syracuse show and displayed tremendous improvement.

The first week of the year saw the Bucs earn at 69, but this past weekend the Bucs received a 74.10.

Also competing in the National Division were West Genesee (80.60), Victor (76.85), Liverpool (76.35), while Copiague and CNS were in exhibition. missing or outdated ad config
