The Fulton Music Association’s 14th Annual Celebration of Community Music is dedicated to the late Joseph N. Campolieta, and will be presented on Saturday, May 7, 7:30 p.m., at the G. Ray Bodley High School Auditorium, it was announced by Steve Chirello, FMA president.
“Mr. Campolieta was well-known as a passionate supporter of music and the arts in Fulton—especially for students,” Chirello said. “He was highly respected in his roles as GRB vice principal and principal, and as a member of the school district’s board of directors. In addition, the GRB chapter of the National Honor Society bears his name. We are delighted to dedicate this annual celebration to him for his contributions to and advocacy for music in our community.
“His son, Joseph L. Campolieta, is a nationally accomplished trombonist who also teaches at Torrington Public Schools, Torrington, CT. He’ll be conducting a number with the Fulton Community Band and will be performing the trombone solo, ‘The Blue Bells of Scotland.’”
This event will also present the Fulton Music Association senior music awards. Winners of these awards will perform as well.
The concert will also feature performances by: the Cortini Brothers Jazz Experience, the Fulton Community Band under the direction of Carol Fox, and the Hamer Sing-Along group. The community band will be performing “Three Revolutionary Marches, Bernstein Tribute, Parade of the Tall Ships, Latin Celebration,” and “The Silver Quill” march.
“All concert participants are generously donating their time to help raise funds for FMA,” Chirello said. “In addition to helping high school students receive FMA awards this spring, FMA members will continue to help sponsor Fulton’s summer concert series, the piano recital series presented in cooperation with the SUNY Oswego Music Dept., and bring special performances by the U.S Army’s 10th Mountain Div. Band right here to Fulton.
“Joseph L. is a band and orchestra instrumental music director who was named 2010 and 2011 East School Teacher of the Year in the Torrington, Ct. district. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Trombone Performance from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, and postgraduate study at Syracuse University in Trombone Performance and at Central Connecticut State University in Music Education.
“He was principal trombonist with the North Shore Symphony in Long Island, and has performed with the Syracuse Symphony. His professional and show experience includes performances with Bob Hope, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Frank Sinatra, Jr., Joel Grey, Ben Vereen, Helen O’Connell, Suzanne Somers, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey Big Bands, Disney on Ice, Ice Capades, Bobby Vinton, and the New York State Fair Orchestra.”
Tickets for the event, which can be purchased at the door, are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.
