Nature Inspires At Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center

AMBOY – Public nature programs at the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will continue into the fall. Also scheduled are the following creative Nature Inspires programs.

On September 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Linda Scherz Allen will instruct participants how to weave a pine needle basket.

Students will select a stone center that is ready for them to start stitching.

Everyone will have a bundle of green dried pine needles and select a color of waxed linen.

There will be different colors and types of stones and colors of waxed linen available.

Attendees will learn a basic stitch, gauge, and shaping while creating their basket.

Students who wish to continue stitching after class can create a larger basket.

The fee for this day long class is only $34 per person and includes materials.

Preregistration is required since seating is limited. Be sure to bring a lunch and beverages.

Then, on September 24 at 2 p.m., Penny Kimball, Oswego County artist, will return to the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center to teach an Introduction to Wood Carving.

During this hands-on class, program participants will learn the basics of wood carving.

Students will use chisels, gouges, and a mallet to create a delightful work of art.

Carving tools and supplies will be provided; however, participants may bring their own set of tools if desired.

The fee for this artistic workshop is $12 per person and includes materials.

Preregistration is required since seating is limited.

For safety reasons, the class is only open to individuals 12 years of age and older.
