Oswego Health has reached another milestone in its construction project at the Fulton Medical Center (FMC) as the women’s services department opens Monday, December 12th at the 510 S. Fourth Street location.
The department features the most advanced technology available in the Fulton area, offering digital mammograms and bone density screening, as well as ultrasound testing in an area that provides privacy and comfort. “We are very excited to unveil these medical imaging services in our new location and we think that the community will be very impressed with the technology, privacy, convenience and the beautiful décor in the department,” said Arlene Coppola, Fulton medical imaging site manager.
The women’s services department will move from the Lee Medical Building and will be conveniently located adjacent to the state-of-the-art medical imaging services already located within the Fulton Medical Center. To access the medical imaging department, please use the urgent care entrance.
The offered imaging services include digital fluoroscopy, EKGs, computed tomography (CT) and general X-rays. Among the patient comforts built into the CT room is a ceiling that has a fall scene for patients to view as they undergo this test.
The new general x-ray room has the technology that turns a routine scan into a wealth of information.
Using GE’s state-of-the-art Discovery equipment that features dual energy, two scans are taken nearly simultaneously that provide radiologists with:
• A standard image
• An image with bones “subtracted” for an unobstructed view of soft tissue
• An image of the bones to highlight foreign objects or calcified structures
“Our radiologists will be able to view soft-tissue images with the bones removed, and images that highlight foreign objects and calcified abnormalities,” Coppola said.
“Using our Picture Achieving Communication System (PACS), we are able to put any image taken at the Fulton Medical Center in the hands of a radiologist immediately. The days of using film are long gone. If our onsite radiologist would like to consult with a radiology subspecialist that can also easily be done using PACS.”
While the women’s services department is now completed, the final medical imaging service to open will be Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which is expected to become available in early 2012.
