OSWEGO – Salvation Army Lt. Michael Dow was recently introduced to the Oswego Rotary Club and spoke about his mission in Oswego County. He and his wife, Lt. Cassidy Dow, were recently appointed to lead the Oswego County Salvation Army Corps.
Lt. Dow, a native of Bangor, Maine, spoke of his growing up in The Salvation Army and of his familiarity with its many services to people in need that led him to become an officer. The Dows’ first appointment after training was the Saratoga Springs Corps where they served for two years before coming to Oswego.
Lt. Dow spoke briefly about some of their plans for their ministry in Oswego County. There is a need for enabling more people to participate in the Sunday worship services. There is room for expansion of the soup kitchen offerings in Fulton and Oswego. It is hoped that funding can be found to expand the offering of the Pathway of Hope program beyond the current 20 families to as many as 50 or 60 families. The Pathway of Hope is a two-year program of education, skill development, and problem-solving that seeks to break the cycle of poverty by preparing people to become self-sufficient.
