Nominate Your ‘Senior of the Year’ by March 6

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) is looking for nominations for its 2026 Senior of the Year recognition. Seniors aged 60 and over who are active volunteers are eligible to be nominated until Friday, March 6.

“We are currently seeking nominations for our 2026 Senior of the Year,” said OFA Director Sara Sunday. “Seniors do so much to help shape and grow our communities through their volunteerism, and it is truly rewarding to see them recognized for their contributions. If you know an older person deserving of the Senior of the Year recognition, we encourage you to submit a nomination form.”

Seniors selected for the recognition will be celebrated during Older Americans Month in May. This year’s theme is “The Power of Belonging,” which focuses on amplifying voices, advancing justice and accelerating connection for older adults. The theme encourages taking action to ensure all older adults feel valued, supported and seen in their communities.

Nomination forms are available at www.oswegocountyny.gov/ofa under the “Downloadable Forms” link on the left. The form asks for basic information about the nominee and their volunteerism as well as a photo.

Once completed, submissions can be sent to the Oswego County Office for the Aging, 70 Bunner St., Oswego. If more than two nominations are received, the OFA advisory council appoints a committee to review nominations and make selections.

Each year, up to two seniors are recognized locally by the Oswego County Legislature with a certificate presentation at the group’s monthly meeting. All nominees will be acknowledged at the OFA Senior Picnic in August.

The New York State Office for the Aging (NYSOFA) will also host a recognition ceremony on Tuesday, May 26 at The Crowne Plaza Desmond Hotel in Albany.
