OSWEGO, NY – Representatives of every grade level at the Charles E. Riley Elementary School said a big “Thank You” to Novelis.
Recently students and staff of the eastside Oswego elementary school expressed their gratitude to Novelis “Cans for the Community Committee” for its tremendous support.
Student Council Advisor Karen Burke said, “The Novelis committee awarded Riley a grant of $500 to support the school PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). The PBIS program focuses on teaching and acknowledging good behavior choices and provides the opportunity for re-teaching when needed.”
Burke continued, “Learning the programs major behavior traits of respect, responsibility, problem-solving and self control, helps the students to become productive school and community citizens.”
Ryan Tamayo, a representative for the Novelis committee, visited the school recently and said, “We are proud to support a program that helps to nurture our students to become responsible productive individuals within the community.”
Since the grant funds have been made available through the aluminum can recycling efforts coordinated by the committee with various groups throughout the Oswego County community, Novelis is also having a positive impact on the community through encouraging aluminum recycling.
In addition to the grant opportunity, Burke explained, “The students and staff participated in a can drive as part of the ‘Cans for the Community Can Match Fund’ program. Riley students collected 3,512 cans and are very excited about receiving additional funds to support our PBIS program. We are very appreciative of both support programs offered by our friends at Novelis.”
