MEXICO – Presentations from law enforcement and counter-terrorism officials highlighted this year’s 23rd annual School Facilities Association Professional Development Seminar and Trade Show, held Feb. 22 for the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation and its nine component school districts in Oswego County.
The O&M staff members were presented with the latest relevant training with a particular focus on emergency management, featuring guest speakers Dustin Hite and Brian Durochee (NYS Troopers from the Regional Counter Terrorism Unit) as well as a presentation on “Discovering Your Self Esteem” by guest presenter William Hoosty from Lone Wolf Presentations.
CiTi Director of Facilities Wayne Wideman said while emergency management “is not a fun topic,” it is “valuable and necessary” for staff.
NYS Troopers Hite and Durochee reviewed recent school incidents and their contributing factors, telling the audience that it’s imperative to “have a plan” and manage that plan as events unfold.
Following the presentations, the attendees were able to attend a trade show held in the Mexico Middle School gymnasium that featured more than 50 vendors exhibiting the latest tools and services.
“As always, our supporting vendors showed up in numbers to show our folks ‘what’s new’ in their particular field and how it may help our school facilities teams do their best,” said Wideman.
