FULTON, NY – Backsteet Books & Bistro, an initiative of Oswego County Opportunities, is currently looking for volunteers who would like to gain valuable work experience while helping to support one of OCO’s most popular endeavors.
Funded through a Community Services Block Grant, OCO’s Backstreet Books & Bistro, 201 Oneida St., offers the Fulton area much more than a location to buy gently used books, surf the internet, and enjoy a tasty cup of coffee.
Manager Ann Clark said, “Volunteers at Backstreet Books & Bistro are able to gain real work experience. The retail environment lends itself nicely to being an excellent source of job training as our volunteers learn a variety of skills such as customer service, organization and attention to detail, and familiarity with computers and cash registers. Our volunteers have the opportunity to be involved with every aspect of running the store, including: inventory of our books, alphabetizing and categorizing our shelves and providing our patrons with excellent customer service. All of which provides the desirable skills and experience that looks very good on a resume.”
Clark added that volunteers enjoy flexible schedules that will easily accommodate their individual needs.
“We are happy to work with our volunteers to ensure that they are comfortable with the amount of time they would like to spend with us. We even have families who volunteer their time and work together in store. Some volunteers are here as little as two or three hours a month, while others enjoy it so much that they are here three or more days a week! Whether you would like to gain some job experience or just spend some productive time in a friendly environment with other community members, volunteering at Backstreet Books my be just what you’re looking for,” she said.
Backstreet Books & Bistro is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
