The only one of its kind in Oswego County, OCO’s respite home was established in 2006 and is designed specifically to provide relief to caregivers of developmentally disabled children and adults.

The respite home is available to consumers Thursday through Sunday.

Under the guidance of site supervisor, Michelle Patchen, the staff provides consumers with 24-hour supervision as they prepare their meals and ensure that they receive any medication that they might be taking.

The home accommodates up to 6 people and includes a room with a hospital bed and a lift for those you require it.

Consumers are also treated to a number of outings, including trips to the New York State Fair, Cooperstown, Sea Breeze, and other area attractions.

“Our consumers enjoy their time here and look forward to joining us for the weekend,” said Patchen. “For the parents it’s a chance to have some respite while knowing that their loved one is in good care.”

OCO’s Respite Program is currently serving more than 60 individuals, each of which can access the program up to 45 days per year.

The Pink Guardian Angel is visiting various OCO sites throughout Oswego County as it reminds community members about OCO’s 10th annual Bowl-A-Fun and the announcement of the winner of the Golden Opportunities raffle that will take place on April 2 at Lakeview Lanes.
