Office for Aging Offers Emergency Preparedness Training for Seniors

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Office for the Aging will host two emergency preparedness sessions for seniors as part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s continuing Citizen Preparedness Corps training program.

The program is designed by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and covers a broad range of emergency-preparedness topics, like developing a family emergency plan, stocking up on emergency supplies, and registering for NY-Alert, the free statewide emergency alert system.

Programs will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, at the Oswego County Health Department Training Room, 70 Bunner St., Oswego, and at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Sandy Creek Town Hall, 1992 Harwood Drive, Sandy Creek.

Office for the Aging Administrator Sara Sunday said the program is designed to provide citizens with knowledge and tools to prepare for emergencies and disasters, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.

“When I was approached by the Citizen Preparedness Corps to host an event, I did not hesitate when considering this winter’s record snowfall in Redfield, in addition to all the flooding that occurred last year,” said Sunday. “I am very happy to partner with the Emergency Preparedness Corps to bring this training to Oswego County and our senior residents.”

To reserve a seat, call the Oswego County Office for the Aging weekdays at 315-349-3484.
