Oswego Church Buys Telemetry Equipment For Oswego Hospital

OSWEGO, NY – A bequest to Oswego Hospital some 75 years ago continues to help Oswego Hospital purchase needed equipment.

Oswego Hospital was able to update its telemetry equipment using funds from a bequest left to the hospital and overseen by the Church of the Resurrection of Oswego. The gift helped the hospital purchase 26 telemetry monitors, which more than doubled the number of at risk cardiac patients that can be observed simultaneously.

The heart rhythms of these patients are recorded by a small transmitter worn by the patient, which sends real time data of each patient to a central monitoring station on the hospital’s fourth floor.

Watching the monitors for any heart rate irregularity is a specially trained staff member.

“This very generous donation will allow us to provide our patients who have underlying cardiac problems with both better care and outcomes, said Oswego Health Vice President and Oswego Hospital’s Chief Operating Officer Nancy Deavers. “With this technology, we will be able to respond immediately to a patient who is having a cardiac problem. We are finding that more community members are arriving at our hospital that require cardiac monitoring and this equipment certainly helps us meet that community need.”

Making the original gift through their estates were Anna and William Judson.

Since the 1940s or so, members of Oswego’s Church of the Resurrection have overseen the bequest and have made recommendations to the hospital on how to spend the gifted money.

“The church is grateful that one of our families was thoughtful enough to think about reaching out to the community through a bequest to the hospital,” said The Rev. K. Holly Eden.
