FULTON – With the suspension of SNAP benefits, hundreds of families and individuals throughout Oswego County are in desperate need of food.

In an effort to meet this need for food subsidy, one of the area’s most community minded financial institutions has stepped up to do its part in helping to provide food to hungry families in our community.

Oswego County Federal Credit Union (OCFCU) recently awarded Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) a check for $6,000 to purchase shelf stable foods for people in need.

OCFCU’s dedication to combating food insecurity in Oswego County is exceptional. In addition to this gift, they have also donated to five other agencies in the area to make a real difference in meeting the urgent need for food across our community.

“This donation will go a long way in purchasing much needed food items to help feed those in need,” said OCO Development Coordinator Bridget Dolbear. “Oswego Count Federal Credit Union is a vital partner whose incredible support ensures we can continue to serve our neighbors and build a stronger Oswego County.”

OCO is also hosting a food drive at its Giving Thanks Food and Beverage Pairing event happening November 14th at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center, 26 East First Street in Oswego. Guests are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items.

In addition to its monetary donation to OCO, OCFCU is also holding a food drive. Now through November 21st, OCFCU is accepting both food and monetary donations at all of its Oswego County branches, including both Oswego locations, Mexico, Fulton and Phoenix. For more information on the food drive visit OCFCU on Facebook.

“It is critical as a financial partner in Oswego County that we are there to support the needs of our members and non-members, said OCFCU CEO Bill Carhart. “While SNAP is delayed, hunger is not.”
