OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Hospital’s computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound imaging services have all been recently accreditation by the prestigious American College of Radiology.

Oswego Hospital’s mammography imaging services have been accredited by the ACR for the past 10 years and were most recently reaccredited this year.

As part of the accreditation process, the ACR accessed the qualifications of Oswego Hospital’s imaging staff and the adequacy of the facility’s equipment.

The surveyors then reported their findings to the ACR’s committee on accreditation, which in turn provided the hospital with a comprehensive report.

The ACR accreditation is valid for three years.

The ACR awards accreditation to facilities that achieve high practice standards following a peer review evaluation.

Conducting the evaluation are board-certified physicians and medical physicists that are experts in the field.

“We take great pride in the fact that the imaging services we perform at Oswego Hospital meet all the ACR standards,” said Kevin Kain, director of imaging at Oswego Hospital. “It is truly a feather in our cap that we got all three accredited at the same time. Due to the stringent ACR requirements, it can be difficult to pass in all these areas all at once.”

The American College of Radiology founded in 1923, is a professional medical organization composed of diagnostic radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists.

The Oswego Health care system includes the Oswego Hospital, The Manor at Seneca Hill skilled nursing facility, Springside at Seneca Hill, a retirement living community and services across Oswego County.
