Oswego Industries, Inc. (OI) has been named a New York State distributor of SoyPrintâ„¢ soy-based toner cartridges for offices and schools, it was announced by Leo Waite, OI’s business development director.
“PRC Technologies of Standish, ME, a division of Print Recovery Concepts, Inc. (PRC), recently announced this environmental breakthrough,” Waite said. “PRC is offering the first laser printer cartridges using toner powder derived from soybeans. These cartridges are available for most popular brands of laser printers at prices comparable to brand name versions currently available.
Debe Overhaug, president of PRC, said that a printer cartridge contains one pound of toner powder and that U.S. business; schools, institutions and government offices consume more than 100 million cartridges per year. “That means the U.S. consumes as much as 50,000 tons of petroleum-based toner powder each year. Now every office employer can help reduce dependence on oil every time they put a toner cartridge in their laser printer.”
Waite explained that the SoyPrint contract joins their “Green” partnership with Mondo Polymer Technologies (MPT), Reno, OH, to help recycle shrink-wrapped boat covers that are made into highway guardrail blocks. The MPT products save landfill space and reduce the amount of wood that is traditionally used in these products.
“Green projects, however, is just one of our strengths,” said Paul Kurtzman, OI executive director. “Our range of custom manufacturing solutions runs from warehousing and logistics, shipping/ distribution, textiles and custodial management services to business services, packaging, fulfillment and assembly operations.
“OI can also handle blister packaging, shrink packaging, heat sealing and bagging of products. We’ve handled projects for packaging tissue paper, toys and costume kits, just to name a few. OI, working for Marvel Products Inc. of Bridgeport, CT, has packaged and shipped enough tissue paper to circle the earth three times. We’re also engaged in packaging Halloween loot bags and blister packaging of Halloween makeup kits for Wal-Mart.
“We’re making corrugated pallet bases for North American Packaging, Schenectady, and we’re assembling and exporting corrugated transfer case shipping cartons for Magna Powertrain, Syracuse.
“In addition, our custodial management service offers complete janitorial services and grounds maintenance. At OI, diversity is our forte.”
OI is a private, not-for-profit Community Rehabilitation Program. It has been providing programs and services to adults with disabilities since 1968. “Our mission is to be a partner in the development of comprehensive community services designed to improve the quality of life for all people, with the primary emphasis on those with disabilities, by providing the necessary support programs to enable individuals to grow with dignity and achieve their highest level of independence and self-fulfillment,” Kurtzman said.
