Oswego Industries, Inc. has announced that its 3^rd Annual OI Golf Open successfully raised a net of $5,884.91 to help support its mission of services to the disabled. The Golf Open, held August 16 at Griffin’s Greens, included 18 teams that competed in a shotgun start, captain and crew format, with many fun contests throughout the day.
The winning team was “Bobby’s Bombers,” consisting of Tim and Becky Oldfield, and Peg and Bobby Izyk, all of Oswego. “The Brick Bar” placed second, with Pat Burke of Oswego, Bob Annal of Cicero, Jim Mieckowski of Liverpool, and Henry Giberson of Oswego. Third place was the team of “Lady and the Tramps”: Jody and Kelly Wells of Granby, Larry Steinburg of Oswego, and Rich Coots of Baldwinsville. The prize for Last Place was taken by “The Go-fers,” consisting of Rosie Griffin of Granby, Mary Cook of Hannibal, Lesa Clary of Hannibal, and Mary Wilson of Oswego. All players enjoyed a chicken barbecue at Humphrey’s Hideaway following the tournament.
“We are very grateful for all our great sponsors and players that come out for this event and to support the disabled in Oswego County,” said Stephanie Crowley, Director of Communications and Community Relations for Oswego Industries. “We have a lot of fun, and it really makes a difference in the lives of people who live with these challenges every day.”
The annual event also included its signature “Disability Hole,” where participants can choose to tee off with a simulated disability. This year, players wore sound-canceling headphones and special vision-distorting glasses, simulating severe vision and hearing disabilities. Previous years have included teeing off from a wheelchair, or having the captain of the team hit the drive blindfolded with assistance from his teammates.
Oswego Industries, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit Community Rehabilitation Program which has been providing programs and services to adults with disabilities since 1968. Services include pre-vocational and vocational training, day habilitation services, and Medicaid Service Coordination. Its mission is to be a partner in the development of comprehensive community services designed to improve the quality of life for all people, with the primary emphasis on those with disabilities, by providing the necessary support programs to enable individuals to grow with dignity and achieve their highest level of independence and self-fulfillment. Its sister agency, ARC of Oswego County, provides services to children and seniors with disabilities: together creating a comprehensive support system for the disabled in Oswego County.
