Oswego Rotarians Learn About Bravery Bag Project

Lylah Lukowski with Bravery Bag

Child abuse is a serious and continuing problem in Oswego County. At the August 12 meeting of the Oswego Rotary Club, Lylah Lukowski, a senior at Oswego High School, spoke to Rotarians about a project she began to support and complement the mission of the Child Advocacy Center of Oswego County.
Lylah’s project, which she has named Bravery Bags, provides bags to be given to children served by the CAC. These bags are filled with items such as stuffed toys, fidgets, books, notebooks, journals, coloring books and crayons. These items not only give children items useful in their healing process, but are a tangible reminder that they are not alone and that there are people who care about them. Lylah calls them Bravery Bags to acknowledge the bravery it takes for a child to recount extremely traumatic experiences and share them with those who can help them.
Bravery Bags are age appropriate. There are different bags for toddlers, elementary school, middle school and high school. Each bag costs $17.50 to put together. Lylah’s goal is to raise $5250. She is about halfway to her goal and hopes to reach it by the end of September.
