OSWEGO – The Oswego Youth Court (OYC) helped spread Christmas cheer to kindergarten classes at Leighton Elementary School in Oswego. While students from three kindergarten classes were busy writing letters to Santa to fill their Christmas dreams, OYC members were busy “helping” the elves with responses. This is the third year that OYC has participated in “Letters to Santa.”
Oswego Youth Court members were accompanied by a gingerbread man and some elves when they ventured to classes at Leighton Elementary school on December 23, 2011. They delivered the original letter with a response from the elves to each child. The letters were read individually by OYC members and given to the child to keep along with a candy cane.
“Seeing the joy and anticipation on the faces of the students as their letters were read was an enriching experience for both young and old,” said Dawn Metott, city youth coordinator for the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.
Staff at Leighton Elementary School appreciated the Oswego Youth Court for taking time to help Santa during this busy season. OYC members were equally thankful for the opportunity to help make the holiday season a little more delightful for some kindergarten students.
The Oswego Youth Court program is sponsored by the City of Oswego, County of Oswego, the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the Offices of Children and Family Services.
