Peeling-Somers, who holds a BFA degree in graphic arts from SUNY Oswego, most recently worked as an administrative assistant at the Meadowbrook Manor Adult Home in Hannibal.

Her experience there, and her past work in customer service, made her realize just how much she enjoys working with people.

“I love helping people,” she said. “I am looking forward to putting my people skills to use at Step By Step.”

As a clubhouse generalist, Peeling-Somers will assist Step By Step Clubhouse members with their needs and help them develop the life skills that can allow them to find a job and live independently.

She will also work as an advocate for the members and refer them to other agency services that can assist them in achieving their goals and enable them to be successful on their own.

One of the many benefits that the Step By Step Clubhouse offers its members is the access to a variety of activities and the social interaction that these activities provide.

Members are involved with almost every aspect of the Clubhouse including input on its policies, choosing the menu, and helping to prepare the daily lunch.  In addition members have specific responsibilities and duties that they must attend to.

“The Step By Step Clubhouse fills a definite need in our community. We have over 100 members, with more than 20 visiting the clubhouse each day. It gives our members a place to go where they are welcomed and appreciated. This is their clubhouse, they get to meet new friends, share their experiences and work together to reach their goals. They are like a family and we are happy to have them here. I will find it very rewarding to get to know our members, understand their unique needs and help them meet those needs,” said Peeling-Somers.
