Oswego County TodayPBIS celebration rewards Granby students for good behavior

Granby Elementary was bustling with activities on Tuesday during a schoolwide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports celebration.

Granby Elementary School sixth-grader Makayla Nolin takes a bite of the candy apple she made during Tuesday’s Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports celebration. Students had the opportunity to participate in several activities to reward them for their good behavior.

PBIS is a districtwide approach to teaching, modeling, recognizing and supporting positive behaviors in a school building.

It focuses on building a school environment in which all students can learn and achieve their personal best.

When problem behaviors occur, PBIS offers a framework to respond with appropriate support systems that are aimed at helping students build the social skills and behavioral habits that will make them successful in school and in the community.

As part of the celebration, students baked cookies, created Halloween crafts, lit circuits, made candy apples, played board games and participated in a variety of other activities as a reward for their good behavior this school year.

The celebration was for students who had not received any behavioral referrals, and honored those who went above and beyond to meet the district’s expectation of responsibility.

Principal Heather Perry congratulated the following students for exhibiting responsibility during the month of October:

Hailey Payment, Nicholas Smith, Tyler Bertrand, Ashley Pollock, Madeline Viscome, Harper Ells, Ashlee Gilmore, Ricky Bush, Kallen Roberts, Mylee Calabro, Rebeccca Bartlett, Bryce Noel, Riley Kempston, Shyanna Wilson, Tate Tucker , Quinn Halstead, McKenna Clary, Dylan Diefenbacher, Cody Syzmanski, Zach Barker, Zavier VanBuren, Lydia Mirabito, Brad Lando, Jadyn McDougall, Ella Hicks, Mackenzie Treneer, Tiffany Sidmore, Wesley VanBuren and Nolan Dexter.

Each student received a certificate and principal’s award for their achievement.
