Phillips Named OHS Orchestra Musician Of The Month

OSWEGO, NY – Senior Michael Phillips has been selected as the Oswego High School Orchestra “Musician of the Month” for February.

Phillips is currently the cello section leader of the OHS Symphonic Orchestra which is the honors orchestra at the high school.

In addition to performing with the Oswego High School Orchestra, he is a member of the cello section of the Oswego County Youth Orchestra and plays string bass with the Oswego High school jazz band.

Phillips has been a yearly member of the Oswego County All-County orchestras and this past fall participated as a member of the Zone 4 Area All-State Orchestra.

Academically he has been on the highest honor roll at OHS and has been awarded high academic achievement awards in French.

In addition to the cello and string bass, Phillips plays the guitar, drums, acoustic guitar, and the accordion and is a very accomplished pianist.

He has been taking private lessons with Marcia Sideris since the age of six and will be featured on piano with the orchestra on the June Orchestra Senior’s concert.

He also will be giving a piano recital celebrating his 11 years of private lessons on June 26.

His interests outside of school include learning other languages which include French, Japanese and Italian.

He would like to travel to Paris someday and he plans on attending SUNY Oswego and majoring in the TESOL (Teaching English to Students of other Languages) education program.
