OSWEGO, NY – Twitter, Facebook, FourSquare and the Internet are revolutionizing the world of public communications.
Social media are transforming consumers into producers and back again. What does it mean for journalism ethics?
Former Post-Standard bureau chief in Oswego County Walt Wasilewski will focus on this issue when he presents “Social Media: Novel Problems, Familiar Solutions in the Twittersphere” at this month’s meeting of the Professional Journalists and Communicators of Oswego County.
The meeting, at noon Feb. 24, at Bridie Manor, will be open to the public and all are invited to attend.
Lunch will include a buffet (cold cuts, veggie tray, pizzas, soda and coffee) and the cost will be $12 for members and $14 for non-members.
Wasilewski teaches courses in news writing and in media ethics to undergraduates and graduate students at Syracuse University.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from SUNY Oswego (1977) and a master’s degree in newspaper journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications (1999).
He began teaching at Newhouse in 2000.
He retired from The Post-Standard in May 2007 after 27 years as a reporter and editor and writes frequently for CNY Business Exchange, CNY The Good Life, CNY Sports and several other regional magazines.
