OSWEGO COUNTY – On Saturday, March 29th, Pulaski High School was filled with laughter and excitement as families gathered for a special “Kid’s Carnival” event organized by senior Madilyn Ives. Designed as the finale of her community project to support her application for the Snow Academic Achievement Scholarship through the John Ben Snow Foundation, the event brought the community together for a day of fun and philanthropy.
The carnival featured an array of activities, including carnival game stations, free popcorn and cotton candy, and face painting. Families also had the opportunity to connect with the Oswego County Early Childhood Alliance (OCECA), which provided information on local resources, free developmental screenings, and details on their newly formed Parent Advisory Council. Additionally, OCECA distributed goodies to attendees and shared details about the Oswego County Diaper Bank.
Madilyn’s dedication to supporting families in need was evident in her months-long community project leading up to the event. Throughout February and March, she collected diapers and monetary donations to benefit the OCECA’s Diaper Bank at Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County, Inc. (ICP). At the carnival, she proudly announced that she had collected more than 4,000 diapers and raised $1,400 in monetary donations – surpassing her goal of 10,000 total diapers.
“I am truly amazed and deeply grateful for the incredible turnout at our Kids Carnival and the overwhelming support from the community. Knowing that, between the over 4,000 diapers donated and the $1,400 collected, we will be able to donate over 11,000 diapers for families and children in need is a testament to the generosity and sheer compassion of everyone involved.” said Madilyn. “This project has been such a wonderful labor of love, and I am just so thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of families in Oswego County.”
The Kid’s Carnival served as a shining example of community collaboration and the impact that young leaders like Madilyn can have on local families. The Oswego County Early Childhood Alliance commended her efforts, emphasizing the significance of diaper access in ensuring the health and well-being of young children.
“When Madilyn came to the OCECA with her project idea at the end of 2024, we were inspired by her drive and passion for supporting families with young children in our community.” said Sidney Carter, Coordinator of the OCECA. “Madilyn worked extremely hard on her community project and it paid off when she exceeded her goal of collecting 10,000 diapers. We are so grateful for Madilyn’s generosity and to be able to support more than 220 children through her community project.”
