OSWEGO Representatives of Rachael’s Warrior Run recently presented Oswego County Opportunities’ (OCO) Services to Aid Families program (SAF) with a check for $2,500 in support of SAF during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The check represents some of the proceeds of the inaugural Racheal’s Warrior Run. A newly formed non-profit organization, the mission of Rachael’s Warrior Run is to honor the life and memory of Rachael Michelle Allen by raising awareness of violence against women.

“We appreciate SAF’s mission of supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and crime,” said Rachael Allen’s Mom Elizabeth Allen. “The work SAF does is inspiring. Rachael’s Warrior Run is honored to be able to support their efforts, and hope to increase our donations each year as we strengthen our support and partnership with SAF and the Oswego County community by remembering my daughter and raising awareness about violence against women.”

Allen added that Rachael’s Warrior Run has also partnered with other organizations such as the Fulton Recreation Center for a “Groove and Grit” event and is looking to establish a scholarship with first responders through CNY Emergency Medical Services.

“This donation is greatly appreciated. I’m thankful to Rachael’s Warrior Run and everyone that participated in the event to honor Rachael’s legacy and raise awareness of the need in this community,” said SAF Coordinator Sara Carmichael. Last year SAF provided services to more than 600 survivors, answered nearly 4,000 hotline calls from those survivors, and provided more than 3,200 bed nights to individuals and children at its domestic violence shelter. “Even though October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the need is there all year round. This generous donation from Rachael’s Warrior Run will go a long way in helping to meet the unique needs of survivors so they can get the support and safety they deserve,” said Carmichael.

If you or someone you know is a victim or survivor of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual violence, or stalking, please call SAF’s Crisis Hotline at (315) 342-1600. The hotline is available 24 hours a day and is free and confidential. SAF is the licensed domestic violence and rape crisis program for Oswego County and has provided crisis, supportive, advocacy and educational services throughout Oswego County for more than 40 years.
