HANNIBAL – George Ritchie, a resident of the town of Hannibal is seeking a second term as highway superintendent.

His qualifications include more than 30 years of construction and contracting experience.
He is certified diesel and heavy equipment mechanic, holds a CDL class A NYS driver’s license and has years of experience as a heavy equipment operator.
“I feel I have the capabilities necessary to continue filling the position, especially given the change in the economic landscape in recent years . I have proven what I can do,” he said.
“Small towns are faced with maintaining services despite reductions in operating budgets. This makes it important that the highway superintendent be qualified to go to work on-site, drive the snowplows, run equipment and trucks, provide coverage for employees absences, etc. A superintendent needs to be qualified, able and willing, to get in there with highway department employees and get their hands dirty,” he added.
“Years of experience has allowed me to formulate plans going forward and preventing and addressing issues on the “catch-as-catch-can” basis. This has saved manhours and fuel, two of the most costly aspects of the department,” he said.
Additionally, expenditures for vehicle and equipment repairs are extremely significant to the departments overall budget.
Farming out repairs and maintenance has cost the town in the past thousands of dollars which is impractical. In the past two years repairs have been done in house unless the equipment was still under warranty.
This has had a significant savings to the taxpayers, as most issues have been corrected before the problems escalated, which has less down time for the equipment.
“By sticking to my beliefs meant, I have helped to save taxpayers 32 cents a thousand on taxes in 2016, and 18 cents a thousand in 2017.
Thank you in Advance for your support.
