Rice Creek Field Station to Offer Summer ‘Rambles,’ Bird Banding

OSWEGO – Birds, buds and blooms will beckon hikers on the summer season’s Rice Creek Rambles, guided walks led by a naturalist from SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station.

The dates for the 11 a.m. Saturday hikes are June 5, 12, 19 and 26; July 10, 17, 24 and 31; and Aug. 7 and 14. Call the field station, off Thompson Road south of the SUNY Oswego campus, at 261-6877 for trail conditions the morning of each walk.

Adults must accompany children on the admission-free walks. Since program size is limited, the field station cannot accommodate groups.

Also call 216-6877 for information on public opportunities to view Rice Creek’s ongoing bird banding project.

Rice Creek is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The field station’s mission includes support of academic instruction, research and public service in all aspects of natural history, especially the natural sciences and environmental education.
