OSWEGO — Patrick Waite, the Area 5 Representative of the CNY Rotary District 7180 spoke at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Oswego held at Bishop’s Commons. Waite, a member of the Fulton Sunrise Rotary Club, is responsible for overseeing the work of six clubs in Baldwinsville, Cato, Fulton, and Oswego. The CNY Rotary District 7180 includes 110 clubs arranged in 22 areas and numbering about 1,500 members.

As the Rotary year approaches its conclusion on June 30, Waite reviewed some of the activities and events that have taken place or are planned. District leaders are working to retain and build membership. A planning retreat is scheduled, and consideration is being given to an annual conference. Thirty-five district clubs have applied for financial grants to help carry out local projects. A monthly membership webinar is available online and an Inauguration gathering will be held at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo on August 16 to mark the changing of officers for the new Rotary year. There will be no increase in members’ dues this year. Current Rotarians will be surveyed to gather their opinions about the quality of district activities and information. The next Rotary Youth Leadership Awards program to recognize and enhance high school students’ leadership ability will begin June 29.
