OSWEGO, NY – Safe Haven Museum will host a Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony on May 1 at 1:30 p.m.
The ceremony will be a celebration of life, and the museum is asking visitors to bring flowers or plants to be planted around the museum in honor of those who passed during the Holocaust and in celebration of their lives.
Rabbi Yossi Madvig of Chabad of Oswego will lead the celebration.
The museum will be open with free admission to the public.
Refreshments will be provided.
Safe Haven Museum and Education Center is dedicated to keeping alive the stories of 982 Holocaust refugees who were allowed into the United States as guests of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
They were housed at Fort Ontario in Oswego, the only U.S. shelter for Holocaust refugees, from August 1944 to February 1946.
The museum is located at 2 E. Seventh St., near Fort Ontario State Historic Site.
