Every year, the seniors at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District have the opportunity to spend a day in the shoes of their teachers.
This year, 34 students swapped places with APW teachers, guidance counselors and administrators.
The day is known as “Senior Swap Day,” and is organized by the school’s student government club.
The soon-to-be graduates came to school dressed in heels, ties and professional dress, ready to take their role seriously.
The students also were required to wear a staff badge at all times.
Any senior is eligible to participate in this event, but they must follow some guidelines: they must meet with their swapping mentor prior to Senior Swap Day to come up with a teaching agenda for the day, and they must be prepared to teach and advise other students, fulfilling any and all duties normally fulfilled by the swapper.
The students are also required to make up any work or assignments they may have missed in their classes.
Club advisor Beth Dunham said that both students and staff look forward to Senior Swap Day every year, and the students walk away with valuable insight regarding careers and professionalism.
