Child Identification Cards created through Operation SAFE CHILD continue to be offered through the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office. During the month of August, 2008, Oswego County parents may bring their children (under the age of 18) in to the Sheriff’s Office any Tuesday or Thursday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary.
Through Operation SAFE CHILD digital fingerprints and high resolution photographs will produce an identification card that may be kept by the parent(s) or guardian(s). They also have an option of having the information (child’s name, date of birth, gender, height, weight, hair color, eye color, and fingerprints) stored in a database at the Division of Criminal Justice Services in Albany, which would be used if a child went missing. Should the parent/guardian choose to give written consent to have the information stored in the database at DCJS, and should DCJS receive a missing child report, the fingerprints of that child would be included in a special search file and compared against all incoming fingerprints submitted to the agency. This information would be electronically disseminated and could dramatically increase the possibility of bringing a missing child home unharmed if used in conjunction with the New York State AMBER alert and Missing Child Alert programs.
Parents and guardians are urged to take advantage of this program. Again, no appointment is needed. Please just stop by with your child(ren) any Tuesday or Thursday during August between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. when Sgt.
