Solar Eclipse Early Dismissal, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District

Letter from Naomi Ryfun, Ed.D., Superintendent of Schools, Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District

We are writing to inform you of a unique and exciting event that will impact our community on April 8th, 2024. On that day, Oswego County is expected to be a prime viewing destination for a total solar eclipse. To ensure the safety of our students, the District will run a half-day schedule for all students on April 8th, 2024. This decision is based on information provided by the Oswego County
Department of Emergency Management. It is anticipated that tens of thousands of people will converge on our a_rea to witness this spectacular event. The increased traffic is expected to
create challenging travel conditions leading to significant increases in travel time. Our top
priority is the safety of our students during this time. The half-day schedule will allow students to be dismissed early, minimizing the potential
challenges associated with the influx of visitors to our region. We appreciate your
understanding and cooperation in this matter, as we strive to ensure the well-being of our
students. We encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience the total solar
eclipse with your family. We also recommend planning your travel and activities accordingly to avoid potential congestion on the roadways.
