APW Elementary School Fun Days were not only fun, but educational; the kids rotated through a variety of stations that represented different careers they might be interested in when they get older.
Many careers were represented including a firefighter, an EMT, a zoologist, an archaeologist and more.
Student volunteers from the APW High School explained details on the occupation and then how to complete the challenge.
Each station included a poster detailing the daily tasks someone in that field might complete, the education necessary to have that kind of job and an approximation on the yearly salary of that position.
The firefighter station required the students to rush to carry a leaking bottle of water to a bucket; the first team to fill the bucket won the challenge.
The emergency medical technician station had students to work together to carry a “patient” (a stuffed animal of “Elmo”) via a stretcher made of cloth and pool noodles.
Students also got to “feed” animals as a zoologist by tossing sacks into a monkey’s mouth.
As an archaeologist, they carefully dusted through a sandbox to find imitation skeletal remains.
Physical skills were also tested at an obstacle course which represented work in the armed forces.
In addition to the rotating career stations, the school also provided a bounce house and a bike rodeo to add to the fun.
