Students Receive Awards from Clarkson University

POTSDAM, NY – Local students received awards during the spring semester at Clarkson university.

Rachel Yerden of Redfield, a junior at Clarkson University majoring in chemical engineering, received the following award(s) during the spring semester:

The Biology Department Outstanding Research Award: The recipient of this award is selected by consensus of the Biology Department faculty members. The award is given to a student who has done significant research as demonstrated by conference or seminar presentations, and who is completing a summary thesis or publication.

Mark Anthony Taormina of Oswego, a junior at Clarkson University majoring in communication, received the following award(s) during the spring semester:

Egon Matijevic Endowed Chemistry Scholarship: This award was established in 1988 in honor of Dr. Egon Matijevic, Clarkson’s Distinguished University Professor, for his enormous contribution to the scientific community around the globe and for his exemplary service to the Department of Chemistry, the Center for Advanced Materials Processing, and the entire University. The award recognizes an outstanding undergraduate student majoring in chemistry.

The Gamma Sigma Epsilon George L. Jones Jr. Award: This award is sponsored and by the chemical fraternity Gamma Sigma Epsilon and presented to an outstanding sophomore chemistry major.

Elizabeth Margaret O’Gorman of Oswego, a junior at Clarkson University majoring in engineering & management, received the following award(s) during the spring semester:

The Commendable Service Award For Juniors: A limited number of Commendable Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization. The award candidate should be a well-rounded individual who excels in all aspects of college life and is especially dedicated to serving his or her organization.

Georgiann Stanbro Tyrrell of Constantia, a junior at Clarkson University majoring in environmental science & policy, received the following award(s) during the spring semester:

The Commendable Service Award For Juniors: A limited number of Commendable Service Awards are presented annually to freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students, faculty, staff and administration members who have demonstrated quality in service to their area/organization.
