Success By 6 Program’s Born Learning Trail To Open June 19

FULTON, NY – Children, parents and grandparents will soon have an exciting new area to explore and enjoy.

Success By 6, an initiative of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, will opens it new Born Learning Trail.

One of only three in New York State, the trail is located in Hulett Park / CV Abbott Playground on Division Street.

Consisting of a series of learning stations, the trail uses the surrounding environment to promote learning for youth 5 and younger.

Project coordinator Ali McGrath said, “Each sign along the Born Learning Trail will encourage children to do a different activity such as: finding certain flowers or trees, noticing different colors, count, hop, find different shapes that exist in nature and other activities that they can learn from. The purpose of the Born Learning Trial is to motivate children and help them learn some of the fundamentals of education before they enter school. It also provides parents, grandparents and caregivers with an excellent opportunity to be involved in an educational and fun activity with their children.”

McGrath said that the grand opening will be June 19 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Beginning at 10:45 a.m., there will be a reception and special recognition for the sponsors who helped make the Success By 6 Born Learning Trail a reality.

“We could not have built the Born Learning Trail if it were not for our caring sponsors, Wal-Mart Supercenter in Granby who provided the financial support needed through a Volunteering Always Pays grant, Baldwin Masonry, the city of Fulton, and Northern Concrete for helping us build the trail; the United Way of Greater Oswego County; Bill Mihalko, who provided the artwork and stenciling for the signs and our volunteers: Morgan Mears, Jonathan Mears, Jeremy Ware, Lori Lyons, Linda Marlowe, Michele Sherman and Lois Luber who helped put the finishing touches on the project,” McGrath said. “We invite the community, especially children and their families, to join us as we celebrate the grand opening or our Born Learning Trail.”

Born Learning is a national public engagement campaign built on awareness, education and action to help parents, caregivers and communities create learning opportunities for young children.
