FULTON, NY – Executive Director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, Melanie Trexler has announced that Morgan Mears has joined the staff as an assistant with the agency’s Success By 6 Program.
Mears, who holds a Bachelors Degree in biology from SUNY Binghamton, will be spending the summer working with the Success By 6 Program and assisting with the program’s many activities.
One of her primary responsibilities will be overseeing the second printing and distribution of the book, Children Do Come with Directions, A Guide for Parents.
The informative book serves as a comprehensive guide that offers first time parents advice that will help them to become responsible and effective parents.
Children Do Come With Directions, A Guide for Parents, which was made possible through funding from Entergy’s James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Plant and the Oswego Noon Rotary Club, was well received by parents and widely distributed through schools, children’s agencies, and other outlets.
The book was so successful that Mears will be heavily involved in the production and distribution of the second printing of the publication.
Mears, who is also an AmeriCorps member, has spent time working with children at the Mexico elementary school and is looking forward to continuing her work with children.
“I really enjoy working with children and I am excited about helping to coordinate the annual Success By 6 ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign. Having worked with children in the elementary school setting I know how important it is for students to have the supplies they need when they begin the school year. For some that could be difficult to do. However, thanks to the Success By 6 ‘Stuff-A-Bus’ campaign children in school districts throughout Oswego County are able to begin the school year with the supplies they need,†said Mears.
“The services that the Success By 6 Program offers young children in our communities are essential to their development. The program has a very positive and lasting effect on our youth and I am glad to be a part Success By 6,†added Mears.
Success By 6 is an initiative of the United Way of Greater Oswego County. It strives to increase the effectiveness of the community to meet the needs of children up to age six and their families. By sharing information and exploring new collaborations for service delivery, Success By 6 seeks to mobilize resources to ensure all children are physically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally able to learn when entering school.
