From August 22nd through the 24th, the skies around Palermo will be filled with the sounds of aircraft. Gary and Jean Gulliver will be hosting a second fly-in of the summer, giving pilots from all over a second chance to get together and for the public a second chance to see aircrafts of all shapes, sizes and colors.
Their 10th annual fly-in was held in July with 28 planes in attendance and over 800 people given an opportunity to learn more about them. This year’s event saw its first gyrocopter and a Robinson 44 helicopter.  A bomb (water balloon) drop competition was held with Bruce and Deb Gerow, in their powered parachute from Oneida, NY, being the winners.
Friday evening a memorial Fly-by for Gulliver’s parents, Lila Gulliver most recently passed away last September, was held. 17 aircraft gathered in the skies then flown over the Gulliver pond, dropping flowers while Amazing Grace was played.
When the weather wasn’t cooperative, movies about aviation was shown on a big screen under the food tent. Spectators mingled with the pilots and gathered around pictures to show what their aircraft and sport is all about. Pilots from all over New York State attended with the farthest coming from New Jersey. Almost all the pilots stated they are returning for the Summer’s End event. More pilots are expected to attend.
The Summer’s End Fly-in will have Radio Control planes displayed and demonstrated. Activities for kids and competitions are planned as weather permits.
The public is welcomed to attend. The event is free and parking is free. Concessions are available throughout the day for purchase. The event starts Friday the 22nd and ends at noon on Sunday the 24th at 1222 Red Schoolhouse Rd in the Town of Palermo.
