Assemblyman Will Barclay (R,C,Iâ€â€ÂPulaski) reminded young readers who participated in the 2008 Summer Reading Challenge to send in their completed reading calendars to the Assembly office to redeem their New York State Assembly Excellence in Reading Certificates.
The 2008 Summer Reading Challenge entitled “Catch the Bug” encouraged children to read with their parents or by themselves for at least 15 minutes each day during the months of July and August. More than 5,000 Summer Reading Brochures were circulated to schools and libraries within the 124th Assembly District. Many local libraries participated in matching “bug” themed events throughout the summer to promote reading.
“I’m always pleased to see the summer reading challenges come into the office. It’s good to know so many continue reading when school is out and I’m happy to promote such a worthy endeavor. Study after study shows that kids who read leisurely have better academic success,” said Barclay.
Send completed calendars to Assemblyman Barclay, 200 N. Second St., Fulton, N.Y. 13069 to obtain a certificate.
