OSWEGO – Residents at Bishop’s Commons are “Exploring Art” this fall with the help of SUNY Oswego student Julia Baldovin.
Baldovin, a senior majoring in Graphic Design and Art History, spends two three-hour sessions in the newly formed Art Studio each week, offering direction, expertise, and support to anyone interested.
“It has been a new experience for our residents who are looking to learn, explore their talents, or even for those who simply want to relax in a calm, friendly, and creative environment,” explained Activities Assistant Cheryl Cullinan.
Baldovin is currently studying for her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design with a minor in Art History.
She is in her final year at SUNY Oswego.
“Teaching was always something I had considered as a career and now with my senior year almost to an end, it seems teaching would be a great option for me,” she explained.
For Baldovin, art has been a part of her whole life, a part she always felt she would pursue.
Working in many mediums, including; clay, oil paints, watercolors, charcoal and colored pencil, her life has revolved around her ability to express herself visually and “teaching classes to the residents is building on that artistic ability,” she added.
Exploring Art is part of an intergenerational Internship program where Bishop’s Commons and the SUNY Oswego Community Based Education Office have partnered to bring generations together creating interactive, meaningful and learning experiences for all.
