Symphoria To Perform Free Concert At Fort Ontario

OSWEGO – On July 16 at 7:30 p.m., Symphoria, Central New York’s musician-led cooperative orchestra, will perform a free outdoor concert at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego as part of the city of Oswego Summer Concert Series.

The stage will be set up on the bluff overlooking Oswego Harbor, just outside the old stone fort, with a Lake Ontario sunset for a backdrop.

Musical selections will include Glinka’s Russlan and Ludmilla Overture, followed by selections from the Carmen Suites 1 and 2 by Bizet, Strock’s Where Shall We Go, Beethoven’s Symphony #5, 1st Movement, and Oswego composer Bill Palange’s Safe Haven.

After a short intermission Symphoria will perform Gould’s American Salute, Wagner’s Under The Double Eagle: March, Williams Hymn To The Fallen, God Bless America by Berlin, Steffe’s Battle Hymn Of The Republic, and Stars and Stripes Forever by Sousa.

Concert-goers are advised to bring their own chairs and blankets as no seats will be provided.

The ramparts of the old stone fort will be made available for seating after 5 p.m. A 12’ x 20’ United States flag donated by the Oswego Elks will be flown for the first time on the flagpole that was only recently provided with spotlights.

Funding for the concert by Symphoria was provided by a grant from the Shineman Foundation, with support from the city of Oswego and Mayor Billy Barlow.

During World War II Fort Ontario served as the only refugee shelter in the entire United States for victims of the Nazi Holocaust.

Fort Ontario State Historic Site is located at the North end of East Fourth Street in the city of Oswego.
