The Early Childhood Education class at Oswego County BOCES welcomed the incoming class of 3- and 4-year olds to the learning center operated by the class with a Teddy Bear Picnic.
The children brought their favorite “teddy bear†with them to meet the teachers and the high school students who will be assisting in the center for the coming year. Parents accompanied their children on the first day to help ease the transition for children and to ease anxiety for some parents who are experiencing the first separation from their children in this beginning step towards school.
The picnic featured many bear-themed activities for the children including measuring how many “feet†tall using bears’ footprints for height. They also participated in a fall leaf painting activity and explored the room with their classmates before having a snack; all with the comforting company of their beloved teddy bears.
The early childhood program encourages social, intellectual and physical development of three- and four-year-olds where they will engage in hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities. The program operates Monday through Thursday mornings or afternoons and runs from October to May.
