The Fort Ontario Festival of the Arts is giving the public the opportunity to create a work of art and at the same time contribute to “Habitat for Humanity”. The Festival is teaming up with Can-a-Lot Bottle and Can Return to provide a fun public art project at the event and the public is invited to help decide what we should build!  “It would be nice if we could build something that represents Oswego in some way”, Kelly Mosher  said.  Mosher is the festival committee member in charge of the project.

Recyclable cans donated to a special account at Can-a-lot, will be used to create a sculpture at the first annual Fort Ontario Festival of the Arts. The sculpture will be built on the festival grounds giving opportunity for people of all ages to add their own special touch to the Piece. Community members may come and spend the day working on the piece or just add one can!  What a fun time you can have just watching!

At the end of the festival the cans in the sculpture will be re-recycled to benefit the local Habitat for Humanity organization to help build homes for area residents.  Debbie Anderson, the representative for Habitat for Humanity,
was excited about the new way to bring awareness and raise funds for Habitat.

The owners of Can-a-lot have guaranteed that a minimum of  2000 cans will be available for the project and the goal is collect at least 5000. This would amount to a donation of $250 dollars for Habitat for Humanity.
To help in this project, just bring in your recyclable cans to Can-a-lot located on the corner of East Seventh & Bridge Street in Oswego, and tell the attendant to credit the number to the Fort Arts Festival under the Children’s Theater account..

The public is invited to help decide what we should build! Email your suggestions to [email protected] or call 342-5265.
