‘The Help’ To Be Shown At First United Church

The award winning film ‘The Help’ will be shown, free of charge, on March 4 at 2 p.m. at First United Church of Fulton, 33 S. Third St.

Based on one of the most talked about books in years, and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon,  ‘The Help’ stars Emma Stone (‘Easy A’) as Skeeter, Academy Award-winner Viola Davis (‘Doubt’) as Aibileen, and Octavia Spencer as Minny.

These are three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk.

From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the
courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed–even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.

Deeply moving, filled with poignancy, humor and hope, ‘The Help’ is a timeless and universal
story about the ability to create change.

The community is welcome to relax with friends and neighbors enhanced by popcorn and soda. This movie, the second in a series to be shown under  lincensing of Christian Video Licensing International
(CVLI), is sponsored by the Older Adult Ministry Team of the recently established Open Doors Neighborhood Center.  Plans are also underway to establish a Tuesday morning Internet and Coffee Café along with other structured activities and learning experiences for old adults.

First United Church is affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, USA and the Presbyterian Church (USA).  The congregation is active in the greater Fulton community through the Greater Fulton Area Council of Christian Churches and many other avenues of sharing.  The facility offers hearing assistance, and it is accessible to those who are physically handicapped.
