OSWEGO, NY – Three veterans of the Oswego Fire Department have retired in the last few months.
They are Deputy Chief Michael Ross (32 years of service), Captain Michael Cutro (23 years of service), and Firefighter Anthony Osetek (35 years of service).
Fire Chief Joseph Perry commented, “All three of these men between their years of service, dedication to the department, and knowledge and expertise made a solid contribution to the Oswego Fire Department. Each individual in his own way made the department better and aided in keeping the people of the city of Oswego safer.”
Deputy Chief Ross began as a firefighter in June 1976.
He was promoted to lieutenant in September 1990, captain in February 1998, and deputy chief in May 2000.
Captain Cutro was appointed July 1885; promoted to lieutenant in April 2001, and to captain in January 2005.
He headed the Oswego Fire Department’s codes division.
Firefighter Osetek was appointed to the Oswego Fire Department in November 1973 as an ambulance assistant and later was appointed firefighter.
Chief Perry also stated,” The experience that these men brought to work every day with them will truly be missed. In the fire service, knowledge is not only gained in the classroom, but in day to day operations and real life situations we encounter. These guys did it all.”
First Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey McCrobie said, “They will definitly be missed. I was appointed the same day as Captain Cutro, worked on the same shift as Firefighter Osetek for 15 years, and worked for Deputy Chief Ross in different ranks and consider him a true friend of mine. All three were born and raised here, as well as raising their own families here. That is something that does not happen all of the time anymore and the city of Oswego and its residents should be proud of these three and their contributions over the years.”
