OSWEGO TOWN, NY – A special election is scheduled for July 25, from noon to 8 p.m. at Oswego Town Hall to vote on resolutions to consider bond issues for the purchase of highway equipment.
These resolutions will establish the creation of long-term bonds for payments, rather than using ordinary bank loans.
We believe these long-term bonds will save tax dollars, both by reducing payments and allowing the purchase of badly needed items now, rather than one at a time.
This also eliminates spending time and money repairing 15- to 22-year-old equipment, and will put more manpower on the roads to maintain and make improvements.
Establishing a bond schedule prior to the development of the budget is a step towards limiting budget increases.
With a bonding process in place, the town board can make decisions on the purchase of each piece of equipment in the fiscal year the purchase is made.
