Town Of Volney To Schedule Presentation On Residential Solar And Wind

Submitted article

During its regular meeting on Thursday Aug. 14th the Volney Town Board will introduce Court Rutherford, a renewable energy specialist with New York Wind and Sun, to speak regarding the viability of residential wind and solar systems.

Court has extensive experience in this fast growing industry. His discussions will cover not only how effective wind and solar systems are in the northern New York climate, but also the multitude of state and federal incentives which can dramatically bring down the overall cost of these systems.

With the cost of energy rising steadily and the rapid improvements being made to these systems, more and more families are beginning to explore if a home wind or solar system can make sense. In addition changes made in utility regulations make the idea of tying the system directly into your meter (an on grid system) more practical, bypassing the need for costly batteries.

Court will not only be discussing all these areas as part of his presentation but will be available to answer any questions.

“When this town hall was first built it was designed to incorporate passive solar, but it never really worked” says Dennis Lockwood town supervisor. “ But the industry has come a long ways since then, and the more I hear about what’s being done with solar and wind systems, the more I think its important our town residents, particularly the farmers, get a good picture of what can be done and how it can be paid for.”

The meeting will start at 7 pm at the Volney Town Hall located on the corner of Co. Rt.6 and Rt. 3. A short regular town meeting will be held, followed by the presentation. Any interested area residents are encouraged to attend.
