The Association representing the elected Supervisors of all 22 towns in Oswego County has endorsed Dave Renzi for State Senate, it was announced today.
Hastings Town Supervisor Jim Weatherup, president of the Oswego County Association of Town Supervisors, said the group chose Renzi as the candidate “more in tune with the issues facing Upstate New York, and said Renzi “would be a strong advocate for Oswego County.”
The announcement adds to Renzi’s backing by groups with strong local interests in the communities and families of the 48th Senate District.
“Thomas Jefferson said that the best government is that which is closest to the people, and town governments work hard to serve many of the most basic needs of residents of our communities day after day, including snow removal, highway maintenance, trash disposal, drinking water and other services,” said Renzi.
“I am gratified to have the support of these local leaders. As Senator, I will listen, and help them improve local services, hold down property taxes and, with the state facing severe budget cuts, stand up to the New York City interests that will want to pass the buck to local governments and property taxpayers in Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties,” said Renzi.
Local area taxpayers are increasingly frustrated by Darrel Aubertine’s failure to deliver results for communities in the 48th Senate district. This year, he failed to pass critical legislation sought by local governments to help improve services and lower costs for local taxpayers, and less state aid than promised.
His failure to pass so-called “home rule” legislation for the Towns of Parish, Granby, Constantia, Schroeppel and the APW school district helped earn him the lowest legislative rating from NYPIRG, the good government group.
“As Senator, I won’t drop the ball and fail to deliver for the towns and the hardworking citizens I will represent, and will work across party lines to get the job done, without complaining and without excuses,” said Renzi.
Renzi also said he will work for mandate relief to help reduce the cost of government for local taxpayers, fair distribution of highway and other aid, and serve as a strong voice for our communities.
The Association represents the Town Supervisors of Albion, Amboy, Boylston, Constantia, Granby, Hannibal, Hastings, Mexico, Minetto, New Haven, Orwell, Oswego, Palermo, Parish, Redfield, Richland, Sandy Creek, Schroeppel, Scriba, Volney, West Monroe and Williamstown.
Renzi’s growing list of endorsements also includes leading employer associations in the district, representing manufacturers and small businesses, major sportsmen’s groups, including the NRA, NYS Rifle & Pistol Association and the Adirondack-Catskill Chapter – Safari Club International, the Oswego County ATV Club, and law enforcement organizations representing police and corrections officers throughout the district and across the state.
