United Way Of Greater Oswego County Annual Campaign A Success

FULTON, NY – I would like to respond to the Post Standard’s article regarding the United Way’s of CNY million dollar shortfalls this year.

This year, the United Way of Greater Oswego County set an ambitious goal of $880,000.  It never hurts to set high standards in a community where there is so much need.  Given the present financial climate, I am happy to say that our campaign is a success story. To date we have achieved 85.2% of that goal which equates to $750,000.  Oswego County is a community that understands what it’s like to struggle and we’ve actually had some company campaigns increase this year.  We have raised enough money to maintain the same level of funding and last year.  That is a great achievement.

We wouldn’t have experienced our success without the leadership, guidance and dedication of our campaign cabinet team.

Chaired by Jonathan Daniels, the cabinet members are: Dick Delaney (Novelis), Rob Rolfe (Pathfinder Bank) and board members Maria Hudson, Doug McRae and Brian Finn. Their input, enthusiasm and hard work have paid off. They have met consistently over the past year and planned a fantastic kickoff, great incentive prizes and new fund raising ideas. Their commitment has kept us on the right path towards success.

Secondly, kudos to the finance/audit committee who meets monthly to make sure our United Way is transparent and compliant. In other words, we are fiscally responsible and sound. The finance committee is chaired by Wendy Tetro and the committee members are Bob Hunter, Bernadette Costello and Tom Greer. Their oversight and diligence has kept us on track.

Thirdly, I compliment Lois Luber and Mary Tetro for their transparency and hard work in creating a sound and professional United Way that we can all be very proud of.  They consistently think out of the box, improve our community relationships and the quality of work that is generated from this office. Thank you.

And lastly, I thank our board president, John Scardella for his vision and leadership. It’s been a great learning experience for me to work so closely with him. Thank you, John. As I look through the list of names of the board of directors there is not one person who does not contribute in some way.  You are what make this United Way a successful and viable one.

I am very proud to be part of an organization that is led by such a committed group of individuals and capable co-workers.

The campaign is not over yet, and may still raise more money, but once again the community has taken the lead from our campaign cabinet, our finance committee, our staff, and our dedicated board members and stepped up to the plate to help those who are less fortunate.

Sincerely,
Melanie Trexler, executive director
United Way of Greater Oswego County
