OSWEGO – United Way of Greater Oswego County recently presented the “Golden Ladle” award to Oswego Restaurant & Sports Bar – Press Box for its delicious Buffalo Chicken Soup as the 2025 Stone Soup Oswego Champion.

The Stone Soup Oswego Luncheon began as a social event to bring together people, food pantries, and businesses in an effort to increase awareness around hunger in Oswego County. Over the years, it has transformed into a fundraiser and food drive to benefit local agencies fighting food insecurity.  All funds and nonperishable food donations collected at the event on November 4th were divided between local food-relief programs.  Each attendee was able to vote on their favorite soup of the day, provided by several local restaurants.

“Presenting the  ‘Golden Ladle’ award began a few years ago to recognize the local restaurants who donate soup for the event,” said Patrick Dewine, United Way Executive Director. “Every attendee gets one ticket so they can vote for their favorite soup. It’s just a nice way to add a little fun to the event and offer something back to the restaurants”, added Dewine.

Soup donations at the event were provided by Canale’s Restaurant, Green Planet Grocery, The Press Box, Oswego Fire Dept. and Kristen’s Kitchen.  Other menu items and non-perishable food were provided by DOT Foods, C’s Market, Paul’s Big M, Texas Roadhouse, Auxiliary Service at SUNY Oswego, Kinney Drugs, and Khepera Coffee. Additionally, the Oswego Lions Club and DOT Foods sponsored the event. The luncheon was graciously hosted by Oswego Elks #271.

“The amount of community support for this event has been incredible,” said Helen Hoefer, committee chair.  “We are continuously grateful to each of the businesses that wanted to take part in addressing hunger in our community”, added Hoefer.

Proceeds were shared with Human Concerns Center, Salvation Army of Oswego, Blessings In A Backpack-Oswego, and Lasagna Love of Oswego County. Collected food from the event was sent to Human Concerns Center and Salvation Army.
